ITLL Mechanical Room

Many buildings have a mechanical room that houses the necessary equipment to run the building. The ITLL's mechanical room is on display behind a glass curtain wall, and the components are color coded to distinguish them and show functional groupings.

The mechanical systems showcased include compressed air (temperature controls and for experiments), fire control system, heat exchangers to convert campus steam to hot water for heating the building as well as domestic hot water, etc.

The color coding scheme in the ITLL mechanical room is as follows:

• Orange: High pressure steam.
• Yellow: Low pressure steam.
• Salmon: Condensate return.
• Pink: Hot water recirculation.
• Red: Fire sprinkler system.
• Dark green: Condensate water supply.
• Light green: Condensate water return.
• Black: Domestic hot water.
• Gray: Domestic cold water.
• Dark blue: Heating water supply.
• Light blue: Heating water return.
• Medium blue: Controls.
• Purple: Compressed air.
